A naturally occurring placental glycoprotein hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) interacts with the luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor (LHCGR). Its structure is a disulfide-rich heterodimer made up of a distinct 145-amino-acid beta subunit and a common 92-amino-acid alpha subunit. HCG is utilized in preclinical studies to investigate angiogenic pathways, paracrine crosstalk, reproductive endocrinology, and luteinizing hormone receptor signaling.
